Freiburg is a true city of culture: The Freiburg Theater is at the heart of the city's theater scene. Renowned orchestras from near and far, such as the "Freiburg Baroque Orchestra", give regular performances here, and there is also a lively band scene to be found on the stages of clubs and bars. Not an evening passes where music cannot be heard in Freiburg.

		In summer, Freiburg becomes the cultural heart of the tri-border area formed by France, Germany and Switzerland. The three-week ‘Tent Music Festival’ (Zeltmusikfestival) takes place at the end of June at the Mundenhof Zoo and has been enriching cultural summer life in Freiburg for over 25 years. A further highlight is the Freiburg open air film festival, which takes place in the city center during July. Also on offer in July is the Freiburg ‘Courtyard Festival’, during which charming and unfamiliar corners of the city can be experienced as cultural venues by residents and visitors. The ‘Town Hall Courtyard Plays’ staged by the Wallgraben Theater are equally well-established Freiburg classics.
		In December, however, the city is full of festive spirit: Every Christmastime since 1973, the Freiburg Christmas Market has occupied its position on the town hall square, in the heart of the romatic old town. Visitors can watch glass blowers, gem cutters and traditional Black Forest straw shoemakers at their work and, of course, enjoy a glass of the famous hot spiced mulled wine.
