Welcome to Freiburg Green City!

		The city of Freiburg is internationally well known for its environmental approach and its extensive use of solar energy and other renewable sources. Among the finalists of the European Union's „European Green Capital Award“ in 2009, Freiburg Green City ranks high in Europe when it comes to the utilization and funding of alternative energy sources or promoting local public transport and bicycle infrastructure. It can share experiences gained over many years and showcase a multitude of effective technical and organisational solutions related to sustainable energy management.

		Focussing early on environmental sustainability and photovoltaics has given the city decisive advantages in a competitive international environment. Freiburg’s solar businesses and research institutes profit from a close-knit network, and the city’s renown and contacts. Hosting a number of prestigious events throughout the year, Freiburg has become a lively centre of the solar industry, and a think tank for sustainability.

		The EXPO Shanghai 2010 team selected the Freiburg district Vauban for the „Urban Best Practices Area“.
