A feast for the eyes and palate


Freiburg has something for every taste and budget. Whether in elegant star-rated restaurants, quality Baden eateries or rustic bars and saloons, there is an abundance of places to familiarize yourself with Baden cuisine and wine.

A great deal of international specialties, low-priced student bars, vegetarian restaurants and cozy cafés can also be found in Freiburg. 

Whether you wish to try ox meat with horseradish sauce and beetroot, liver with ‘Brägele’ (fried potatoes), ‘Schäufele’ (smoked shoulder of pork) or ‘Schupfnudeln’ (finger-shaped potato dumplings) with bacon sauerkraut, you will find a list of the various Freiburg restaurants here, including addresses, details about opening times and seating and a short description.

Tip: The peak culinary season begins around the end of April. For two months almost all restaurants offer what Germans fondly call the ‘royal vegetable’: asparagus from Tuniberg.

The locals are experts in the preparation of this delicacy, served with its ideal accompaniment - white wine, grown right next to the asparagus fields.
